The eight visions received by the prophet Zechariah in 520 BC were of huge significance to the Jews who had returned to Judah after their seventy-year exile. Although they had begun to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem with enthusiasm, opposition faced them on every side. The visions gave them the encouragement that they needed: despite the sins of the past, God was with them, and He would help them to complete the work that they had started.
These ancient prophecies are just as relevant for later generations of believers too. Zechariah’s night visions are timeless, oering similar encouragement to those who seek to build communities of faith in a hostile world today.
